Babcock Innovation & Ventures is the unified commercialisation engine of Babcock University — formally inaugurated in April 2026 to succeed RIIC and BEDC as the institution's single, structured platform for turning academic research, faculty expertise, and student ideas into real-world ventures and licensed technologies.
BIV operates across three innovation tracks — an Innovation Incubator for early-stage ideas, a Startup Accelerator for ventures ready to scale, and an Innovation Training programme that builds entrepreneurship capacity across all 45+ departments. It runs 12 structured programmes annually, hosts Nigeria's premier university Innovation Summit, and maintains a dual-lane model that serves both institutional research outputs and market-driven student ventures.
Governed by a fourteen-member Board of Directors drawn from academia, technology, creative technology, finance, and industry — and supported by specialist desks in legal, ICT, monitoring, security, and partnerships — BIV is designed to be accountable, inclusive, and built for long-term impact across Nigeria and Africa.
